Default Block ID

I have 2 D17A2 engines
Both are 10 Civic but are different blocks
Can someone tell me what the application for both is or at least what bolts to the pan rail area on the intake side.
Honda dealer says there is only 1 block # 01-05 D17A1,2,6,7
So what am I looking at. [IMG][/IMG]

I can tell you that the one on the left (ES2) is off of a Sedan (4door) EX, and the one on the right (EM2) is off of a Coupe (2door) EX.

Not gonna help him too much, My spare block is out of a coupe and it's got the same bolt features as the one on the left.
My stock block however, looks like the one on the right.....
I guess I'm gonna have to see what bolts onto those holes.
I'm not sure that they changed the block, it may be a difference in casting from different years, or how they attached the block to a machine table to bore it out, I'll look into this a little, maybe the shop manual says...
good thing is the 3 bolts for the rear mount look to be in the same spot.

EDIT: Just checked Official Honda manual (big green book). It diagrams the block as the one on the left, nothing is bolted to those holes. Its some kind of variation, either the foundry that cast it, or they changed a way they worked on it during construction, who knows, I could speculate all day. Either way, it makes no change to the functionality or attachement of anything to the block.

I knew it wasn't of much help, bud. I was just calling out what I saw.

Look at it this way, at least I didn't make a false claim.

Which actually had near nothing to do with the reasoning to why the two blocks are different.
