3 stage vtec head
there is a 3 stage vtec head for sale and all it includes is the head itself, the cam, and the cam gear; no rockers, or anything else on the inside. There is also a P2J ecu that is they say for the 3 stage vtec, and a 3 stage vtec solenoid for sale so i could get those to. But what about the rocker assembly and any other solenoids in the valvetrain itself that i would need?
Does anybody know everything i would need and if so a rough estimate of the cost for these items. I am looking to do a mini-me on my sohc zc and i just want to figure out my options.
The guy selling it also says that it is a p08-1; is that the correct head to be 3 stage vtec.
One more thing, would it be at all possible to run this on my sohc zc because it is OBD 0 with a pm6 ecu

the 3 stage VTEC heads require an OBD-2 ECU to run it properly. If you dont have that, then it'll run funny on a 2 stage vtec head because it'd be like using only 4 of the intake valves until the big cam kicks on. So if you want that, u gotta convert to OBD-2.

Does he get a Toad e-cookie?
The good Dr. is right though. The VTEC-E (or VTEC-Economy) head was introduced on the 5th gen VX hatchbacks, which were roughly the equivalent of the HX models from the next generation. They're good for fuel economy, not for performance.

None of that has anything to do with what he was talking about. Regular VTEC-E is just 3 valve then 4 valve after "VTEC" kicks in. 3 Stage VTEC is from the EK3 VTi and Ferio Vi. 3-Stage has 3 valve mode then 4 valve then 4 valve "wild cam" profile and makes 130hp just like the celebrated D15B VTEC. Also I don't know if this is true, but it's been said that the 3 valve mode acctually increases low end torque and makes it faster than the regular D15B VTEC. Either way it's not like the anemic VTEC-E motors. Unfortunately the MTX P2J ECU is pretty much inpossible to find as they allmost allways came with CVT trannys.
Anyhow back to the bottom line... For your purposes stay away from that head, its really complicated and you have to run the stock ECU for it to work so theres no real upgrade potential (Can't re-tune the ECU). If you want to do a Mini-Me just find any regular VTEC head.

that one on ebay stamped po8 is NOT a 3 stage.I have one in an EF sedan. It is stamped (cast) P2J ,quite similar to d16y8,EXCEPT rocker assembly and 2 solenoid vtec, and it ROCKZ Yo...
Dont hate on the HX motors... I ran a y5 w/ a 60-1 on 16 psi no head studs nothing... Ran a 12.2 @ 113 on pump gas... Had vtec set at 4500... when it crossed over it was crazy... Blew the tires off:
