We'd have to check it out, but times are changing(Modern style/modern technology)... mirrors on 50% of the bikes are completely useless, I need to see whats behind me in city riding.

They came off b/c I was getting the bike ready for a trackday... but I havent missed them at all. I like not having them and worrying about whats behind me.
I may at some point put a small bar end mirror on the bike, but they're kind of pricey.

That helmet is awesome! Cause I'm always dilligently checking my mirrors at stoplight but always have to move my arms and shift a bit to see behind me cause sportbike mirrors are teh suck...

You can look all you want but you're not going to stop them from hitting you by watching your mirrors - and there's not likely going to be anything you can do to get out of the way if you see it coming.

Ever since almost being run over, I'll leave my bike in gear, look for and leave room to manuver to make an emergency escape if needed.
For me, that is a rather non-complacent attitude to be riding a bike. If I can proactivly prevent myself from getting in an accident, I'd rather do that than sit around waiting for it to happen. But to each his own.

I try to do the same - I just happen to think getting ***-packed while sitting at a stoplight is one of those things thats nearly impossible to prevent, so I dont worry too much about it

wow...I mean seriously wow. Not only do I look alot in my mirrors at lights but also in my car. I've almost been hit a few times, and saved b/c I looked in my mirrors. I've taken my mirrors off once to put on a new shield and rode around. Bike looked good but not good enough. I didn't feel safe w/o them there.

When did mirrors become a "safety item" ? Not having them doesnt stop me from knowing whats around me - if anything, it makes me more proactive, since I cant become complacent by just glancing at the mirrors.

I think that's arguable either way. Personally I would consider them one because they can help keep you safer.

Shawn @ Moomba had one and didn't end up using it after a couple weeks. Not sure why. IMO they look ghey and riders who ditch their mirrors to look cool on the streets look squidish. But that's just my .02 of course.
Always keep an eye on the car behind to make sure it's going to stop. I avoided one situation on the freeway when traffic came to a stop because I was watching the car behind me.
