just play around with them. What feals good to one person isn't to another person. I drive around on 2 or 3, but knock it up to 4-5 for autocross. Of course, then I forget to switch it back and drive around town on 5 for a few weeks before someone complains.

what you set your shocks at should be determined by your springs and your use (daily, fun runs, race). and not by anyone else's opinion.
for the street, i will find a speed bump and go over the speed bump at a slow, but moderate speed. i will try to find the setting that will comfortably settle, going up and over and especially after the bump. specifically i mean it will bounce once and then no more. start at the #1 position and work your way up until it no longer bounces then dial it back one. do front and rear separately.
ive set this once and have not changed it since, as long as i daily drive my car.
for the track or performance use, i set it at 4 all the way around and TUNE the car from there. if i want a bit more oversteer, bump the rear up to 5, or reduce the front to 3. if i want less oversteer, then i bump the front up to 5, or reduce the rear. if both are set at 5, then i reduce the end that i want more grip. thats the general rule of thumb in suspension tuning.
again, what anyone else has to say what they set their shocks at is irrelevant to me, and should be to you.

you didnt even mention drag racing...
having no personal experience drag racing, id set the rears to full stiff, and start from 1 in the front and work my way up until i start losing traction.
