need help w/ CHP. had no where else to post this!
I'm picking up a 2000 theft recovery GSR from auction tomorrow and i have a 1994 jdm gsr motor and i know salvage theft recovery cars need to go to CHP to get inspected in case the parts aren't stolen. But if i convert the whole car including wire harness into obd1 without using jumper harness from ecu you think CHP will know? I have no choice because i have a 1994 civic EX harness and the knock/secondary are already hooked up.....
I believe when u swap motors the software must be as, or more, current than the year of chassis manufacture. Since your car is a 2000 gsr I assume the engine swapped in must also be OBD-2. Since your vin was and always will be for a 2000 car I don't think there's a way around it. This applies to smog checks and getting the car B.A.R. 'd and ref'd.

If you put in the JDM engine - there wont be any numbers for the CHP to check and hence you'll have to go through another process of putting the a USDM engine in it. This is assuming your tossing in the JDM b18c.

I have paper work for my jdm b18c motor. I bought it from a warehouse. I used it on my EJ1 coupe, but that car got totaled and i pulled the motor out. Only vin number on the car is the tranny which is usdm and it's off a db8.

from how i see it, since you put in the JDM motor and your getting the car inspected, they might give you a ref ticket...
on the other hand, if the cop is pretty chill, he'll be cool with the fact that the motor is a jdm motor and does not come with a US VIN...
