Default is this normal 6th gen AT behaviour/shift speeds

from zero i can go 20mph and the car will be revving around 2000 rpm, but coming from over 25mph to 20, it will only do 1000-1200 b/c it will stay in 3rd, some times it will go 25 in fourth gear at 1000rpm, then lag when i want to re-accelerate from the school zone

its annoying as hell, especially since i most of my driving involves that retarded long 2nd gear

also have to ask, which is more efficient, for going through a 20mph school zone from a stop: dont go past 20mph, staying in first and pulling 2000+RPM constantly, or bring it up to 24 so it will go to 3rd then slow coast thru the 20mphzone at 1200rpm

auto sucks!

i guess what i want to know is if that's normal shifting speeds/pattern or if its a sign the tranny needs a fluid change or is on its way out

i didnt bother to search very well though since its not really that important

any help is appreciated

edit: here;s a random pic since threads with pics get more hits

gears are selected based upon vehicle speed, throttle position, engine load, etc.

My 98 V6 would go into 4th at 35 or higher and would stay in 4th until about 25 or so when slowing down

just yesterday, when it goes into 4th for the fisrt time it feels really wierd, like it misses a shift or something, oh and it has that thing where it hurks forward coming to a stop when it does the 2-1 downshift

is that enough reason yet to get a free transmission, car is still under the warranty

2000, remember the thread about the TLtransmission https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1968909
we helped that dude in, i cant remember the sell date or w/e it was called but i have a good while, the car has 92,000miles, i have until 109,000

but i only drive about 12 miles a day if i dont have to stop anywhere so looks like im going to hit the time limit first

damn this sucks man, piece-o-****

whats the whole "process" for bumming parts offa honda? ive never gotten so much as a free sticker to put on my binder from the dealer

you might want to read this since your car might be affected. It's a lawsuit filed against Honda for transmission problems in many of their vehicles, your 2000 Accord is listed.

http://www.hondatransmissionse...t.pdf

I got that on the mail since I have an 01' odyssey

The shifting pattern is normal. Try out holding it in 2nd the whole time. You will be doing 20 at 2k.

while the shifting pattern is normal the jolt or lurch when slowing down is not.

but arent i just going to get another automatic transmission, or are these new ones any better?

again, whats the process, do i call american honda first, help me out im clueless here, but i can ussually hanle my own

that and for the first time of every drive, while cold, 4th gears engagement is kinda jerky

which doesnt bother me, ill lock it in 2nd for when i have those wierd dogleg tuurns with 2 stop signs, or in parking lots

but the poin was to NOT do 2000rpms to go 20 i dont need that much power to cruise at 20

unless your car is salvage titled or some other reason like flood damaged your trans will be replaced for free. get it done asap. take the car to them and drop it off. they will give you loaner and call you when it is done.

i can get a loaner if im 17? also yeah icidentally, the first tranny was flood damged and replaced by insurance, so this is number 2 tranny

would it be good to replace ATF so it looks cleaner so they dont wimp out on me and say its because the ATF is old or something?
