JDM D15b Questions
After pondering and pondering I think I have found what I'd like to do....
I am new to the honda scene still and want to do a motor swap on my 91 hatch STD.
I figured the best way to learn more is to get hands on.
The Vtec d15b seems to be a fairly easy entry level swap. It is definite increase in HP from the 70HP I have now.
If I were to get an engine, 5 speed tranny, and switch to mpfi would I be fine? Or would I need more?
Mounts are the same right?
I think this is a swap I can handle.
Would bolt ons for the normal d15 fit?
Anyone running this same setup?
Anyone think I'd be wasting my time, or it wouldn't be worth it?
Right now, I'm just looking for a bit more HP for my DD that would have low miles.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-DenzComp

Is your car auto right now?
You will need to convert to obd1 also.
Mounts are the same unless your car is auto now.
Bolt ons will work still.
Will be a night and day difference over your stock motor but won't be super fast still.

D15B can be purchased from http://www.hmotorsonline.com
Swap is a straight bolt on deal. You keep your stock 5spd tranny, if you are 5speed, unless you have extra cash. If so, spring for an Si tranny, much shorter gearing will give the car a quick jump in acceleration, put will limit top speed and have high rpm on the highway (stock Si engines live a long time, so don't be fussy).
Wiring, unless your know your stuff, http://www.rywire.com .
If your auto, it's a bit more work, but it's only a few more hours of work (litterally that easy).

I'm not looking for a racer or anything, just want to make it a little more fun to drive. </TD></TR></TABLE>well then if that's the case it will make everything easier. Yes the monts are the same it will just bolt right up, but as mentioned before I would spend the $100 and get a used si trans.

I really don't even know what that is....

It isn't that hard really and there are a bunch of write-ups online.
Even with an obd0-obd1 harness you will still have to wire some stuff like vtec and the distributor plugs. If you use a p08 ecu like you are supposed to you won't need to buy a 4 wire 02 sensor.

edit: prices went up on that motor, it used to be $450
