crank gear wont come off
i need to change my oil pump seal and my crank gear (the one the timing belt is on) wont come off. ive tried heating it and prying it off nothing helped
becarful with heating it you are directley heating the crankshaft, ive had the problem several times lol mostly on cores that other kids that dunno what there doing give me lol ,
some wd40 or engine brite (dont wash off the engine brite as stated on the can tho) usally dows it, also hitting it back to where it was origanlly with a rubber mallet usally beaks w/e seal is on it then comes loose

have you tried....a gear puller?

I sure as hell would put something like a stack of washers or even a small slat of wood on the crank so the tip doenst damage the crank threads though

i tried a gear puller and wasnt able to gat it behind the crank gear (sits flush with oil pump), so it had nothing to hold on to.
i had this prolem before and hitting the gear only chipped a tooth no it

is the engine out of the car? i have to unbolt the oil pump and pull out on it to get it started then i put it back on and used a gear puller. i ended up breaking the gear anyway so i ordered a new gear and key for like 30 bucks.
what sort of clearance is between the gear and the block?
the only thing i can suggest is the u get a small wedge style punch and try to convince it to come off that way ... you may need quite a few diferent sizes

if you do it carefully hitting all sides of the thing and not just one point it should come out at least far enough to get the next sized punch in there.. then if u have enough space u can then get the puller back there and finish the job..
if it doesnt want to move at all u may have to sacrifice the gear

usually when i run into this i soak it in penetrant and lightly tap it with a brass hammer. then i use two large flathead screwdrivers, one on either side and carefully pry it. then i tap it back towards the motor. i repeat this back and forth and eventually they move and slide off.
I like hearing all of the success storys of gettin them off.
In my case i had to weld half inch solid stock bar to it and a plate on the end. Then i hammered the plate and it came right off. worse case senario i guess.
