Default Funny smell coming out of vents.

Well I'm not sure but I think something is dead in either the blower assy or the vent some where. Does anyone know how I can clean out the blower? Sea Foam or something? And what do I have to worry about messing up, so I don't break something when I try to clean it. Thanks for any info.

like dead animal?

i really dont think any mammal is small enough to fit through the vents......

this last crx i bought had a smelly vent system, what i did was bought some:

"ANTIMICROBORAL" Febreze Spray

1) you turn on the vent with both upper and lower open, to the highest speed.

2) set the temp to fully cold

3) make sure its set to pull air from outside the car, not the loopback setting.

then go outside the car, and spray into the input ducts at the base of windshield.

what will happen is the car will suck the febreze into the vent system via those ducts and hopefully help you.

if something is actually physically dead in there then get a Helms manual and pull that dash etc.....

Full heat, level 4, air fresheners inside the vents...seal the interior (make the fan suck cabin air not exterior air) and leave it for a few hours.

It's just the smell of old (or dead stuff). If it doesn't go away by covering it up, then pull your dash out (simple, I do them in 20-25 minutes now) and clean each vent one by one.

what if the problem is on the way into the car?

Ummm then you pull your dash and you clean each piece one by one...once you pull the dash you will see the blower assembly is just a few more nuts and bolts.

So is there a way to clean out the blower? I have all ready stripped out all the interior (- dash) to clean it because the previous owner was a smoker. So If I need to take out the blower or vents, this is the time to do it.

yea, the blower is easy to take out and clean. jsut get under there and take out the blower and the black box attached to it (i forgot the name oif it). make sure theres no freeon or coolant in your ac system. those run to the black box next to the blower. you need to disconnect them.

heres what i found in my old crx that was causing a loud whirring noise and cause a "funny" smell

so get to dissassembling and scrubbing!

It could just be mold/mildew. My Accord had that problem, I just spray Lysol down the vent and took off the wiper cowl; sprayed some in the vent from there, and the smell never came back.

btw, I tried Fabreeze, etc. too, but the smell kept coming back. Lysol did the trick.

</TD></TR></TABLE> bwhahaha...@ my dad's work a lot of people would come in like every other month with a electrical problem and it was always those bastards getting in there and chewing it up...we always saved it for the customer because they never believed it. It was really nasty because some would like sleep neat the manifold and other heat outputs, and they would be all crispy

lol, yea that little leather dried bastard was the culprit behind why my car didnt run. He chewed the injector wires and the wires to the fuel pump. too bad it took me a couple months to find him afterwards

if its a horrible burning smell it could be your blower motor going up. mine did and the smell was outstanding.

Yeah I was going to say that mice and little animals can defiantly get in there but it looks like I was beat to it. Never leave food in your car. I once head about a lady that had a bowl of like 2lbs of heresy kisses in her car, she parked it and the next day there were gone. When she turned on the heater little tin foils started blowing out the vents. Apparently mice had taken all the kisses and hide them in the air ducts.
