molds can grow inside ur ducts due to moisture when using ur a/c
best way to prevent the smell is to blow out ur a/c off 5 minutes after arriving at a specific destination.
works great!

Thanks. Would it help if I took off the vents and cleaned inside of them. Do they just snap out? The air vents im talking about

that shouldn't be necessary. what i commonly do besides running it w/out a/c is to turn on the heater to dissipate the moisture. might wanna try that instead of removing ur ducts. the disadvantage of that is mold will grow again after cleaning ur ducts.

This would be my guess, or you can buy a can of stuff that dries it out. Bad part is, you either have to take the assembly apart or drill a hole in it and spray that way. But if you're pulling it apart, you might as well give it a thorough cleaning

When you wash your car, try to put the a/c off then put in HOT for about 20 min, then put inside your car a pot with bleach CLORO in spanish and close the door and keep it there for others 20 min. The heat and the bleach will kill everything.

Do this.. get a can of lysol ( scented to your liking) then turn on the blower with AC then take that can of lysol and look underneath your glovebox and you will see some kind of inlet vent, sort of like a screen with bigger holes on the right corner)
Make sure you select re-cycle air option ( button will be yellow) now take your lysol and spray inside that hole little by little. After you do that for a few min then turn off your ac and wait a few hours. Lysol kills germs and mold and that should make your AC smell better after a few weeks ,, it will smell like the scent you used for a few hours and I suggest you not to go inside the car for awhile.

they say by turning off your a/c compressor before you arrive at your destination you can prevent the smell...

well what happens is that the AC is a collector of moisture , thats why you use it on the defroster for the windshield, so after you turn off the car the moisture is still there so you need to turn off the AC then run your fan for a few min if possible.

If you just charged your system and let the evaporator sitting in your car for awhile do the lysol trick to get it out.. You have alot of mildew on it and thats what's causing the smell

Hmmm... makes sense. The smell just became noticeable after a few days of hard rain here in Toronto. Is the Lysol trick a permanent solution though or will I have to repeat this every so often??

Should get rid of most of it , it all depends on how much mildew has accumulated over the evaporator box area.
