Default 84mm vtec motors, whats your total timing???

got some initial dyno time today and i noticed my graph (dont have it on me) is choppy above 6500rpms. i was adding timing and it was smoothing a little but i didnt want to push to far. currently im running between 17.5-18.25* at 10-11psi. my afrs are spot on in the low to mid 11s also.

I would run the afr around 11.8 instead. What compression are you running

Well, based soley off the info given, and generally speaking, If i had a 84mm bore i would probably start off with quite a bit more total timing and keep working up from there. I run 19.5* total timing on my little 75mm bore d16 at 10psi on pump gas, which is plenty safe on my setup.

84mm bore, the flame front is gonna have much more time to propagate.

I'm indirectly telling you that I would put more ignition in it. How much? untill it quites making power.

You really cant say what your timing should be, there are way way to many variables that will come into play when tuning that can change the outcome of timing settings.

9.5 compression and 93 pump gas. i know you cant say exactly how much timing but i was just wondering if i was in the correct neighborhood with it. im very likely having other electrical problems because my car will loose power once or twice every 100 miles i drive it out of no where.

i wound up adding about 1-1.5* and it only made an additional 5 hp and 3 or 4tq so thats why i stopped. plugs show no detonation. im just kinda stumped

84mm ITR, .60 trim T04E compressor, 22 degrees at 26 psi on a straight diet of C16.

I was kind of surprised.

Using eCtune on a high-end 81mm build, whose timing numbers indicate "more advance" because you aren't tuning around the stock ECU code that adds a lot of hidden advance, 11.x psi at 26 degrees resulted in 345 whp on Torco 110. This is still somewhat relevant to the thread - it both indicates the difference between indicated and actual timing among available EMS, and as a previous poster responded bigger bore engines like more timing as the burn takes longer to cross the extra distance.

I have a pile of "precise" 84mm timing figures on my laptop, but typically I don't pay any attention. Things change around a LOT depending on bore/cam selection/cam timing deflection from being decked and milled/displacement/etc. For an 81-85mm B-series I typically go with a stock ignition map, add a .75-.9 deg/psi retard, and then adjust timing as needed based on plug/dyno feedback. If you look to this thread for the timing you need to run then you should do us all a favor and think seriously about a vasectomy before you breed.

too late, my wife is about to have our 5th!

im using uberdata, and the map that i dyno tuned last year as my basemap. main changes are 81 to 84mm and a blox im over an oem one.

alright heres one for you guys, it really seems to me im having an ignition or electrical power issue, my car was randomly loosing power and my oil press gauge is spiking all over. would having a wire for the gauge ground or touch something effect my ignition?

Joe... what did you mention before about having a mexican in the engine bay to spray fuel into the intake manifold and manually retard your dizzy?

It was a Puerto Rican midget named Rico. Well, in truth his name is Nelson but he tells everyone to call him Rico.

Here's his myspace: Rico

Feel free to harass him about it, he thought it was funny the first time.
