Default d16z6 rev limiter (searched)

Well earlier today i went to start my car(94 ex) and let it warm up and such, then while i was driving i decided to get on it once i hit around 6k-6.5k rpm the rev limiter kicked in. All i have done to the car is a cold air intake nothing else. I read somewhere that red line for the car is 7200 rpm. Is this an issue with my computer or could it be that the car was not fully warmed up. Thanks for the help.

Just a thaught since I know speedometer readings can be trown off with larger/smaller wheels. Could it also affect the RPM reading?

I don't think it was warmed up all the way, the temp needle was almost to the half way, where it usually is when it is warm. Would it not being warm effect the rev limiter? Thanks again for all your guys help, really appreciate it.

It not being warm can and will affect the rev limiter on must cars. It does that to protect the motor. The rev limiter safe is 7200 but it will rev out at 7500. I use to do it all the time on my d16z6 and never had any problems "it was my beat the f*ck out of car" so i didnt care but you shouldnt do it, its not good on the vavle springs and all that. There could be a problem with you oiling system if it is taking a long time to "warm" up 10 min. is more then enought on a 40 degree day what was the temp out side. Also do you feel the vtec kick in at all and or does it dog out at 5500k. if so it could be something wrong with the oiling system and or your vtec selonide. Back to the car needing to warm up first and limiting your revs is to make sure the motor gets oiled to cut down on engine were. Tell more about your car maybe there is something else.

Well here is a link to the video of what it does, I've been driving around town for about 10 min then i get home, put it in neural and here is what she does:

Also this is the second time i have driven the car this week, so maybe that contributes to the problem? I'm beginning to think that i need to it warm up some more before i try to reach the higher rpms, anyway thanks for the help and ill do some more tests later tomorrow after driving the car for a longer period of time.

Aight, ill go look around for one once i have some cash i can spend, and also another thing, the first time i drove the car earlier today it did the rev limiter at 6.5k. Ill try to find a buddys cluster to swap out to see if it works. Thanks for the help again, really do appreciate it.
