CHugging 2001 Prelude
My 2001 Prelude (150000km) makes a cyclical chugging noise at idle that becomes consistently more frequent as the engine speeds up. It doesn't stall but it runs rough in low gears. ANy ideas what the problem might be?
Sounds like a dead miss....change plugs..check wires very closely for burn indications or breaks in the wire....inspect cap and rotor for burn indications....report back
Thanks Very Much. I went and got plugs, rotor and cap an hour ago! Wires look good. Will install in about an hour. I'll keep my fingers crossed and let you know. ANy installation tips for these components would be appreciated!

I would check your old cap and rotor....you will see indications of an ignition arc on them...if you dont see anything I woulnd't replace them personally...also let the motor cool b4 you change the plugs...some folks dont do it...I think its good considering its an aluminum head..thats about it....GL

Changed plugs, rotor and cap...all were well coked, so the performance delta is very good. Still have the chuga noise noise. I expect that's from something loose in the exhaust. Will investigate this weekend. Thx again for your help!

check the spark plug wires firing order. If it's not in the right firing order you get "chug" noise. But if that does not help, check fuel system make sure all injectors are working properly. It's also better to clean you intake system as well as the EGR and IACV. Last choice is to run compression test that could be low compression on one of those cylinder.
