muffler shop wont make me a test pipe!
Ok, so im goin to put my JDM 4-1 on today bc i cant take the exhaust manifold leak and rattle anymore. But first I wanted to just check on the price of a test pipe, so i went to a local shop and told the guy what i wanted and stuff, and he jus kinda shook his head and said he couldnt do it bc of regualtions and stuff. I even told him I had a cat on the way
and only wanted the test pipe temporarily and to have for track use. Still no budge. Will this be all muffler shops? I want to go ahead and put the header on today since i have this free time but i dont want to drive around with an open exhaust till i getta cat.
I know im gonna get flamed for not just getting a cat to begin with but im going get one soon, esp since i have inspection coming up.
But what should I do or say to the next muffler shop I go to? If someone has the dimensions of how long the pipe should be to bolt up to the stock cat-back maybe i could give that to them.
Thanks for the help

I hate stinky test-pipes. They do not belong on the streets.
I know I can preach all I want, but even some of my buddies (you know who you are.
) don't even listen, so oh well...

some shops fear this cause they could lose their licesne try http://www.testpipes.com or try contanting godspeed (havent seen him around much lately)
or you could try going to a small muffler shop tell them youll pay cash,etc...

Unless you know someone who works at one, good luck. You could try just taking measurements and ask them to make you a pipe for track use, but I don't think they'll do it if they have to put it on the car.
yeah its pretty illegal and they dont know you (so cant take your word) and prob wont be budging anytime soon.
try just giving them the piping diamater, length, and size of the flanges and see if they'll make the pipe. if they ask what for, just tell them you replaced your exhaust manifold for the wrong car and there is a gap between the cat and you want to close it up. dont go in your car though.

A 16 7/8th long testpipe will bolt up to a jdm 4-1 header and stock b-pipe.
thanks for all the help guys..

around here if you have your car towed in on a trailer or flat bed and tell them it is a solo 2 or some other type of road race only car they will do it, but it has to be towed in and out to prove it isnt a street driven car..
test pipes
just get a high flow cat. i hate when import guys always try to run them and then they complain about the domestic boys killing the environment
that seems like a double standard to me...
anyway, i've got a test pipe that's 16.5" long end to end that i ganked off my car to put a cat on. if someone wants it, let me know. i'll give it away.

they wont make one because when you get caught they know you will roll over on them in two seconds flat

"but Mr. Policeman the guys a Super Muffler World said I could run this on the street, they even installed it for me, I cant believe they lied to me!"

I live in Colorado and the muffler shops around here will gladly make you one but they are not allowed to physically install it on your car. Several times I have brought them a junk cat that has good flanges and they chop the flanges, measure the length of the cat and build a test pipe that way. Ususally out the door for $30-$40 bux max.

update: I boughta 2.5" test pipe for a 92-95 civic and jus got it cut to fit. I never knew how much freakin shorter the replacement cat had to be! I should have measured it before i put it on but it was prolly less than 12" in length.
anyhow, my car sounds like **** now, its got that hollow, gutted muffler sound. u know what i mean, that really annoying 4cylinder buzzing noise. it also kinda sounds like something is loose inside the muffler. From the inside it jus sounds like a nasty nasty rattle.
.. Im gonna check if anytings loose tommorow and measure that pipe. anyone have any suggestions on where too look? btw, i dont have the lower bracket.
