do any of you smog techs have trouble communicating with the obd2 when you smog 2006 and up vehicles. i smog a lot of out of state vehicles because my station is around large businesses, and whenever a 2006+ vehicle comes in, my equipment will not communicate with car. it seems to happen on DSM cars. does anyone know how i can go about this problem? i need to make that money.

These are CAN vehicles and the OBDII tests are bypassed.
Haven't you taken the 2007 update class yet?

While you are there check out the search for traction control for a list of cars not to be rollered also.

Have fun getting a tach lead for rpm. you got to remove the plastic on most cars.
My favorites are VW damn them. Even if they are OBDII they have a funky signal that gives you a key off detected. then start removing the covers.

Crap, I knew it was because of CAN, but i didn't know that I can bypass that portion of the test. Usually, when a car comes in I check the OBD2 manual test and if it doesn't respond, I let the car go.

Yea, VW always jumps from 700-0. I usually use the battery leads, and it works no problem.

How do I go about bypassing the OBD2 for CAN? Do I just press cancel when the test tells me to hook it up to the car?

Thanks for the advice. I'm waiting until summer to take the 2007 update, but now that I think about it, I might take it soon.

 

The system should ask you, But I think it is a yes or no answer. I will look at the next smog I do.

Is what you mean when the machine asks if a vehicle requires an obd 2 scan for first time smogs,you can just put no and it will bypass it for can cars? I run a small test only, if i have problems communicating i just hook up the obd2 to my own car.Because i'm hidden behind a gas station.I cannot let cars go.But i would prefer to do things the right way.This is just vw and audis with CAN right?
