99 civic ex with teg rear discs. Front brakes have 4 month old hawk hps pads with resurfaced oem rotor.

Everytime i brake above 40mph my steering wheel shakes. Anything below that is fine. Its not when i'm braking hard too if its just a tap the steering wheel and whole front suspension shakes. I checked the front suspension/brakes and nothings loose, everything looks fine. I tightened all the bolts that are in that area and still nothing. Just an hour ago took my front wheels to get them balanced. Still nothing. What else can i check for? the Ball joints look fine and tie rods (i think thats what there called) look fine.

 

Could be that your rotors got warped. Did you ever do any crazy emergency type stop in the 4 months?

sort of...had one or two when i was on a trip....

 

Mine does the same thing right now and it drives me nuts definately the rotors. They may have a flat spot from the panic stop. I'd take this time to upgrade your rotors/pads or just get your rotors resurfaced.

i had these oem rotors resurfaced 3-4 months ago...pads are basically brand new hawk hps pads

Any hard braking can cause a rotor to warp. If you don't easy off the brakes under hard braking to relieve some of the heat build-up they are going to warp. It's a pain in the ***. Mine have been warped for some time now. I just have other things I need to fix before my brakes. Like getting new shocks and tires...

If you don't want to keep spending money on new rotors and pads, you can go to autozone buy a set with a lifetime warranty on them and whenever they get warped or just worn out, you get new ones for free. Luserkid did that for a long time.

 

I'm getting ready to replace my rotors. Do you think having slotted rotors would help the warping? because my mechanic told me they're a higher tempered metal then blanks. If I do I'll probably do autozone or brembo blanks. Just curious thanks.

The more resurfacing a rotor sees, the easier it becomes to rewarp due to a reduction in thickness. It's not uncommon at all to have resurfaced rotors **** the bed within months of the work
