I went out to check on my engine oil today and there was no oil on the dipstick. I thought I ran out of oil so I went to Shell to buy some. Poor about 3 bottles in and check it again and it went about 2 1/2 inches OVER the limit. Is that harmful for your engine?

 

Let it drain for about 3 seconds (probably enough time to loosen the bolt, take it off and immediately replace it)... quick fix.

umm no, you let it SIT for like 20 minutes so it goes back into the oil pan and then check it.

I was basing my reply off of th fact that he did in fact wait for the oil to completely drain into the oil pan....I would be more concerned as t why there was no oil in the first place.

 

When problems like this show up its best to just do an oil change and start all over

 

yea, im just saying because I did the same thing, however I was probably intoxicated, and didnt realise oil isnt like water, alot of it could have been whicked up onto the dick stick.

 

How long can I drive it untill I really start to fuuck **** up? i mean, I can't do anythign untill SATURDAY and I need my car for work.

 

dont take it up past 3k rpms, usually you should be fine since most oil has anti-foaming detergents.

 

Imma go drain it tonight. So, i probalby drove a total of 80 MILES with it being overloaded. I think i ttook it to 4.5 RPM already.

you think about 80 Miles is enough to do damage? fuuck!!

 

So, I am about to drive 40 Miles to my friends house TONIGHT to get some of the oil out. I got work 2morrow and no Mechanic arear is local to mine so I have to make this trip. I'll keep you guy posted!

My buddy said to just keep it under 4K RPM.

I drained the oil via plug. Imma go do a compression test when I have time to see if any seal got blown.

yep...i would change your oil again and put the right amount in...wait a week and check the oil again.

 

bro, you probably only over filled 1qt over, which isnt bad. If you never took it over 4k's your fine.

only thing I would be concerned about is putting that shell crap in. That doesnt have any anti-foaming addatives.
