Default chips do they work

i have a b18 hf crx. my frind had his GTI chpped by this new guy really cheap and got 48 wheel horespower. Do u think this is true i have a hard time believing this. can this be true. But even if its less horsepower than that would chipping my car add power to my ride. And is it worth my time. To chip and install he only wants $106. so deal or no deal. PLZ let me know what u think!

You mean like a reflash, the lamer ebay "chip" or a installing a chip so you can tune propperly?

VWs wake up with a reflash, 48 seems like a heck of alot though.

Chipping really isn't going to do anything for your motor if it's relatively stock. You may be able to tinker with the fuel maps to increase your power slightly, but I really wouldn't recommend it.

And did he actually get his car dynoed or is he just "guesstimating" this HP increase? If he's never had it dynoed I wouldn't trust him.

yeah 48 hp is a damn lot for just a chip. Unless this guy dynoed before and after, i would be wary of any hp claim.

No he didn't have it dyno'd that is why i didn't know. i am suppose to race him so i was just figuring out what people thought. his is the untuboed model to. ya it is mostly stock. so i shouldn't tone it then? and yes its some type of chip he tunes the car with to make it run better. what do u guys or girls think?

He probably has a 1.8 turbo. Turbo V-Dubs get a good bump in horsepower when chipped because the boost is increased.

It is mostly stock, and not even turbo, and you guys think that a chip gave him 48 hp? lol.

Then you are talking about a reflash, they don't do much for Hondas, live tuning is our best bet.

You might snag 10 fly HP from a stock b18 with a tune.

I would do basic bolt ons before a tune, or better yet come up with a plan and mod accordingly.

But end of summer i will. I can spend about $600 woth in the next month or so. what would u do?
