Is there a way to tell how much ignition advance the ecu is giving? Like from reading voltages or frequency or something?

I think I'm gunna order a data logging peice soon ( http://www.labjack.com and it records voltages. What would I have to record to know what timing I'm getting?

Does that even make sense? Hope so...
