Default flickering cluster, headlights, guages

Hey guys hope you can help me and my friend. His crx's headlights and lights inside the car flicker really bad when the motor has any load on it. Also his guages go crazy too, the temp gauge will shoot up as soon as the car is givin any gas. I searched around on here and seen that others had this problem and fixed it by replacing the alternator. Well, we put mine on his car which does work, and still the same thing so thats not it. We also went went over all the grounds a million times. We are out of ideas. Anyone had this problem before? here is a pic for reference........

thanks!

I was having the same problem with my 91 hatch. The ground on the right side of the picture was undone for me...looks like his is fine.

Electrical problems are the worst.

Good Luck

Most of the time when this happens its a ground problem or a loose connection somewere. Pull the cluster and make sure the tabs are not loose. Also make sure the grounds on the dash harness is not loose. There are 2. One in the driver kick pannel and one behind the radio. Also look at the one on the thermostate housing too

Defintely a bad ground. What happens is that electricity will flow in the wrong direction if it can't find a better way around. Check ALL of them again, replace the cables if you have to.

There's one from the battery to the chassis, and then from that to the transmission. One from the radiator support to the engine then valve cover. And the last one in the engine bay would be from the wiring harness to the thermostat housing.

I think the one on the front of your car is the problem. The pic is a bit small so I can't see that area very well but the big wire should be going to the head stud which is to the left of what it is mounted to now. There should be a smaller wire, and that needs to go directly to the valve cover.

The reason for this is that the valve cover is insulated from the head electrically by all the gaskets and stuff. That's why there should be 2 wires, and if theres just one, you need to add it on. Run the radiator support to the head stud first then to the valve cover. You've got ingition energy being grounded by the head and that has no place to go so it'll go wherever it can.

Hope that was the problem.

Well if it helps this did not start doing this untill i went to the track and went through the traps at 116 then the car shut off. I started the car back up and the lights were flickering, i manged to make it home. While i was driving home if i was on the gas the lights would die down low and if i let off the gas the everything would work right. I replaced the alt and that seemed to help it some what but still acts up.

Well Im not sure what to say then, except that you should try moving the ground wire and see if that improves the situation because its not in the right place and I can't see if there's anything connected to the head to ground it.

It's possible that it was able to cope before but pushing it like that may have caused it's old ground path to become saturated and it went someplace else. Kind of like having a too small wire, it becomes hot when too much power goes through it and if it can, it goes a different way. Some electrical parts DO NOT like having electricity flow in the wrong direction and can damage them. Sensors are usually insensitive to this, but the ECU certainly isn't. But at this point, I would say that the ECU should be fine, and that the problem is someplace else. Maybe the underhood fuse box/ELD?

Let's try fixing the valve cover ground first and go from there.

Hey man, yeah he got it figured out by swappin around the wires on the valve cover (dont know exactly which way). It was so wierd, he would have one on the post and the other on the valve cover and vtec, two step, and rev limiter would not work but the guages would. Then flip the wires and the guages would not work but vtec, 2 step, and rev limiter started working again. He put them on a third way and now everything works. Its crazy because my integra only has one wire and i have put it all over the valve cover and always works. Damn electronics needing to go to earth
