Default ABS modulator problem need help!!

I have the problem about my 2000 accord, this accord is a used car, and i bought it in March. At the beginning few weeks, i felt the brake wasn't stop good, need a long distance to stop, then i saw the oil in master cylinder, the color was black, i think since owner, he never oil changed. Last week i tried to bleed the brake system, my friend depress the brake pedal several times, i heard the sound of air come from the ABS modulator, but it hasn't any oil leak in this parts, because i saw the oil level in master cylinder, it hasn't any less, so i guess it seems to be the air leak, and i am so confuse, has any guys have same experience? If i replaced it by self, what kind of procedure need to do? thankyou

well your abs modulator is seperate from your master cylinder...if you noticed black fluid in your master cylinder it usually means some of the seals may be rusted in the MC...so it sounds to me like you have a bad master cylinder...air in the system can cause the seals in the MC to rust and therefor the MC goes bad and you'll need a new one...go get a new master cylinder and install it yourself..thers two brake lines that connect into the master cylinder..I think they are 10mm..so get a 10mm linewrench and take those off and take the two 12mm bolts that hold the MC to the brake booster off..bench bleed your new MC and put it on...bleed the whole system and then you'll be fine

Thx, i am looking for the new MC, but today, i tried to heard again, i confirm the air noise come from the abs modulator when i depress the brake pedal, so do I need to replace the ABS modulator also or just the MC problems? Thx!!!!!

well your abs system has nothing to do with how your brakes feel..the abs unit is just there for lock up situations only not during normal braking..so if you say your brakes are soft and it takes them a while to stop...i automatically think MC...if it looks like oil the seals are probably rusted up and the MC is not working properly...get a new MC and bench bleed it and put it on..bleed all 4 calipers..after you do that bleed out our ABS modulator because there could possibly be some air in that also

On a 2000 Accord, the ABS doesn't have it's own reservoir, & you don't bleed ABS separately. It bleeds right thru the modulator when you bleed the main brakes.

Bleeding order should be LF - RF - RR - LR for that year.

Does your ABS warning lamp come on for 2 seconds during it's self-check? Then does is come back on when you drive?

Poor braking power could be from stuck calipers, like the brake pads are rust-bound in the caliper brackets. Have you checked for stuff like that?

One thing's confusing... You say when bleeding the fluid isn't any less. If you're bleeding fluid out from the calipers, the fluid level in the reservoir SHOULD go down.

Sorry about that jimblake...im not to familiar with the 6th gen accord lol...and like jimblake said when you bleed your brakes the fluid level should go down..its probably not going to go down a whole lot unless you bleed each caliper a lot..just make sure you fill the resevoir up after each caliper is bled.

Brake fluid is sorta oily, but it is NOT oil.

Genman - can you confirm that? If someone actually put OIL in there, that's bad.

If it's just brake fluid, OK. In that case, if you have air in the system you probably have to bleed a lot more fluid from each wheel in order to work all the air out. Just don't let the reservoir go empty while you're doing that.
