Ok here's the deal...since I BOUGHT the car the column itself has been like this. The ignition cylinder everything is tilted down to the right. I have disassembled the column cover/dash panel/gauge cluster surround all at the same time to try to find a bolt/bracket that may have it like this. The steering is aligned and the steering wheel is straight. Anyone know what could cause this/could fix it? The has never been wrecked just for your information...let me know because this bugs the living crap out of me. I cannot tell if it's just some damn defect on the car or what...it's hard to tell in the picture a little but if you look by the gauge cluster surround where the column cover meets it...you can see the gap on the right hand side and the overlap on the left hand side.

 

It look like you missing the right side bolt that hold the steering column.

 

Number 16 is the bolt that goes on the #2 bracket.

 

Well my car is just like yours... Does the steering wheel rub on the back side plastic that covers the ign? Mine does. The reason mine happened, is because of some ***** bastards tried to steal my car, by busting the ign off, with a pipe i am guessing... So the down force bent the colum out of wack. This is going to be my project for monday, getting everything strighten out.

 

kail: do you know if honda made the steering racking have a set alignment when putting a new rack in? So you know it's dead on when you install no matter how stright your wheels are?

 

See that's the weird thing...nothing in my column rubs on anything...no wires are twisted or cut or pulled tight...and to top it off it's not loose at all. The tilt wheels works as it's supposed too and everything is tip top expect it's just tilted like a S.O.B. I'm gonna try taking the column off again to see if it's just the bracket that holds the ignition cylinder in place can be shifted upwards to change it.

 

the bolts that hold the ign on the rack, don't have any slots in the head. you have to use a center punch to get them out.

 

Checked it all out again yesterday just to validate it. The ignition itself is not the only thing turned...the whole control unit for the headlights/windshield wipers is twisted too. I just gave up and cleaned up the wiring under the dash and organized it...I guess i"ll just have to deal with it.

 

Most of the hondas that get stolen have that effect afterwards. My cousin's civic looks like that after it was recovered and fixed. We've never found a way to straighten it back so we just left it since everything still worked fine. i think the only way to fix that is to get a new steering column.

 

Its a last resort kinda thing, but that **** would bug the living hell out of me, replace the column.

Same with my car when it was stolen and Eran's car when it was broken into.

Mine would still drive, but Eran's was so twisted that he couldn't.

So I'd say it was probably stolen or broken into at some time.

We both had to replace our columns.

 

i used the washer method over the weekend worked like a champ.
