I just got a hatch with a gsr motor. Runs beautiful but when I take it up to vtec past 5000rpm my exhaust smokes...... what can this be? My friend and I were gonig down my block and I was in 2nd Gear took it past 4500+ and Threw a cloud of smoke in his face? Is this an easy problem to fix? Thanks guys

 

sounds like piston rings to me bro. you'll have to dissassemble the motor. if u pay to get it done you may be spending 400-800 dollars... maybe more.

 

Well now hold on there....What color is the smoke?? That is very important.

White/bluish = Oil
Black usually means = gas/rich

Hondas when reamed out to the redline usually will put out a little puff of black smoke because of fuel consumption. Thats normal.

But iff it's white....That could be a # of things. How many miles on the motor?

 

70k only in vtec tho. It has no cat. its that a problem?

my b18c1 doesnt smoke at all above vtec. maybe im lucky.

unless it's a large billowing cloud of black smoke, i wouldnt really worry about it. and you said it only happens after vtec, so it's kinda normal.
