distributor question
Can I just take the old distributor off and put the new one one? Or do I have to set the timing and arrange pistons. Is it a hard job? Ive done work on cars before but ive never set timing. Im a plumber not a auto mechanic so if anyone can help ill apreciate it. Thanks
yes you can just unplug it and put it on, it does not matter where the engine is, in its cycle. The distributor will only go on one way the key is offset so it only goes on the proper way, In a perfect world you would use a timing light after to check the timing, but I have just slapped them on and adjusted it by how the engine sounds while the engine is running. move it back and forth and find the sweet spot its not perfect but im usually within 1 degree of spec by doing that.
it would be wise to mark the position of the old one with a sharpie or marker so you have a point of reference. That way even without a timing light you'll be sure that you're close to your "original spec."

But how would you line up the new one, since there is no mark on that distributor ?
When you get the distributor in, try not to turn to. Try to eye the post up
