throw out bearing...how's your clutch pressure? You sure cable just not loose? Did you try adjusting it maybe it'll grab a bit more to get you in and out of gear?

I don't think it's the clutch cable, because even with the clutch engaged it should still come out of gear.

sounds like you may have broken a shifter fork - can you move the shifter around but the transmission just stays in second gear?

a) remove old transmission
b) buy new transmission
c) install new transmission
d) scrap old transmission

Seriously though, you can just replace the forks but you may as well either get a new transmission or fully rebuild your old one. It would be cheaper to get a new tranny IMO though.

i had a spring bust out of the PP once and did the same thing, either way you will need to pull it.

i'll be keeping you guys posted on the progress. i'm droping the tranny today and gonna rebuild it. i know it would be easier to just get a new one but i can't find one at any of our local junkyards that are in any kind of good condition. so i will let you all know how it goes later tonight.

Sometimes we have to go through 3-4 transmissions in hopes of building one good one! LOL! Good luck with your progress!

got the tranny out and nothing is broken. the clutch looks horrible. i will post pics of that either tommorow or sunday. ummm...all i'm waiting on now is the clutch to arrive. as far as everything else looks good. the pressure plate has two missing springs 8) but thats all good cause like i said there is a new one on the way. while i have the tranny out should i go ahead and get the flywheel resurfaced or no?

thanks for all your help. and wish me the best of luck.

ok new update i found where the springs from the pressure plate went. somehow they got caught up in the second gear and the linkage got all binded up? don't know if thats common or not. but i have never heard of that happening.

still no pics yet waiting to get everything cleaned up then i will take more pics. then post.

what my friend 95f22 is forgetting to mention is that the car was still driveable. i drove that car from where it broke down to my shop. the shifter would not move out of second gear. you could wiggle it around just like normal but when you pushed the clucth, the shifter stayed in the same spot.
