Default should i just disconnect my airbag?

ok lately my SRS light has been flashing when i turn my steering wheel.

I know what causes it, but im not worried about fixing it. What i do want to know is...do i have to worry about this thing blowing up in my face randomly one day?

i dont want a wreck, and i carry a 1 year old with me sometimes and with my luck he would be in the car if it went off.

so just lemme know, is it gonna blow up on me? or will i be ok?

Does your light stay on at all times? Or just when turning? If soild it wont go off (been in 2 accidents with the SRS light on and never deployed) finally said eff it and yanked the bulb and replaced with a aftermarket wheel.

Disconnect it and drive your car into a telephone pole

kinda found that unnecessary...

no it flashes as i turn the wheel. i mean, if there isnt a risk of it blowing up in my face then i dont care about the flashing light. im just concerned about my safety and the safety of others that ride with me.

well bump for you then cause im not sure about the light flashing with turning. You could always just disconnect them tho. Its the risk you have to take i guess, No air bags, or random air bag in the face.

you stated that you know what's causing it - so what's causing it???

this is the way i see your situation - no offense.

your airbags aren't working and you have a 1 year old - this is a no-brainer.

fix the airbags - dont' put your child in the car until you have it fixed. you never know but this airbag could be the differnece of you seeing your child another day.

there are definately a lot of DIY threads on resetting your srs light

Well hold the phone there buddy since technically that kid shouldnt be in the front of the car until 12 or older the airbag shouldnt affect him. Secondly 1 year children still are supposed to be in car seats therefor the air bag is better off not working in the childs best interest, If placed in the front seat it is overly advise to turn off the airbag where applicable. An airbag is NOT a childs freind sorry to say it.

"Should I disconnect my airbag?"

-NO!

Reset the light. Its kind of fun, like Whack-a-mole almost, with all the connect, disconnect, connect, stop, turn on, off, on and there ya go. If it comes back on, get the code, and PM I have the service manual, I'll look it up. Or go to Autozone and get the code.

have you disassemabled the steering wheel before?? does your horn work, cause if it doesn't i think your clock spring might have been snapped (i can't remember if the clock spring is connected to the airbag).

he is sitting in the back.

and i only have a drivers side airbag. im not an idiot.

im worried about it blowing up in my face while im taking a turn on one of these mountain roads. i believe that would probably cause me to wreck, wouldnt you?

when i bought the car it had no airbag, i put one in it, and this proplem just started a couple weeks ago. the horn does work, even with the srs light on. The light never stays on constantly, just flashes as the wheel is turned.

this is what it looked like when i bought the car...as you can see i had to put it all together.

thats why i would like to leave it connected if i can, for my safety as well. but as stated previously, what good is an airbag if its gonna cause me to wreck?

When your SRS light is on, no airbags will deploy. The light indicates that the restraint system has been deactivated and that there is a fault with the unit.

Airbags just don't randomly go off in your face...

If the air bag is not connect to the battery in any way shape or form, how will it deploy? Doesn't it need to have an electrical current in order to be discharged? If you are worried maybe just swap out the steering wheel.

That's not true, your SRS light will come on if there has been a loss of power to the airbag, for instance if the yellow plug by the key was unplugged even if the battery was out the light would come one..... it did it to me and I had to clear the code, which is kind of fun

If you SRS light is on the air bag will not deploy.....Air bags just dont randomly pop...unless you have f*cked some wiring up and it powers the airbag. Just do the right thing and fix the problem...its not hard.
