Default Just picked up an EF hatch, but small problem, and a question? All help appreciated

Getting back into Hondas and picked up one of my dream cars since I was a young kid. EF hatchback. Its the standard w/ no options, no nothing, and 213k on the clock. You can see a little bit of oil that looks like it has been in contact with the dust on the outside of the valve cover (looks like a thick consistency) and seems to be almost coming from the VC. Upon further inspection the last spark plug wire closest to the brake fluid reservoir had a little bit of oil on its surroundings. (not enough to be dripping, but enough to tell there was oil on it) Its a safe bet to change the valvecover gasket and gromets as I know oil can pass through there, but is there anything else I should look for? The car seems to run decent, no check engine lights, fresh oil, and the car looks to have been taken care of besides the aged exterior/interior etc. I mean, its almost 20 years old so give or take I dont expect the world.

Also the only other problem I found with the car is that none of the instrument cluster guages are backlit, and wanted to know if it takes just a usual 194 size bulb to replace them all in the back end of the unit. All of the other interior lights work, and the fuse is good, so I am guessing they were just never changed as they went out years ago.

Yes it sounds like you need to do the VC gasket and all the spark plug tube rings too.

if the grommets and the valve cover gasket look good go get some regular 10mm nuts and use instead of the acorn nuts for the valve cover. those will let you snug the gasket down alot more. i've fixed a couple of cars like that even with old gaskets

As far as the dash lights...make sure your dimmer isn't all the way down.

Already checked the obvious, but definitely something I could have simply missed. I would have slapped myself if it was the dimmer. lol All of the other interior lights work, so I figure its the bulbs that were never changed out hopefully instead of the cluster having a short. Its two screws up top, and two screws down below to take the shroud off and then I am guessing some screws holding the cluster to the dash from there to remove it right? I took a quick look at how it comes out and theres not a whole lot of information on the manuals that I could quickly breeze over for that car. Just looked at a parts site with an old diagram and figured thats how she came apart.
