Default ran turbo car in rain with no filter. now it sounds funny

94 civic cx with d16a. t3/t4 turbo. front mount intercool. turbo is running with no filter or screen. there is a plastic piece that covers where the ac radiator should be and of course i have a radiator so water is supposly be block from entering the engine cabin. it was fine until couple days ago i drove it to school on a raining day and now when i drive it it makes a noise. it sound like the motor is louder but deeper in tone. its hard to explain. that is the best i can describe it. what do you guys think it is. water got in motor and now causing noise or water got in my turbine and now making noise.

I doubt it man, the odds of water making it into the motor just because it was raining and slim to none. About the only way would be submerging it. I have never been able to run filters on my turbo cars do to size and placement and never had a single problem and most of them were daily driven

It's very unlikely that any water got into your motor or turbine and is still there making noise. Check to make sure that nothing cracked when cold water hit your hot manifold and other components. You might have an exhaust leak. Worth a look anyway.

Most likely does not have to do with water at all.
Are you running a cat? Its not uncommon for the insides of a cat to disintegrate and blow out over time, leaving it entirely hollow, like a test pipe. Also check to make sure you dont have any leaks in ur exhaust, bad gaskets, ect. That could be your problem.

If you get water into your motor, you're fucked....royally.

its rather hard to get all the way to your motor man, even if it goes thru the turbine, the intercooler naturally traps it there. u might wanna open up your piping if you're so unsure tho...

Yea, water isnt going to linger around in the motor, its either you hit a puddle and sucked up water, and your royally screwed, or your fine and theres no water, theres no inbetween.

sure there is. he could have water in the low spots on his charge piping. If he restricts the air/charge passage then it could change the feel and sound of the motor a bit.

A little bit of water is fine. But if you hit a puddle and suck up a ton of water and hydrolock your motor than your screwed. But in this case there is nothing wrong. Yes over time water does evaporate. It should evaporate in less than a minute. Now i dont think water got into the intercooler piping but over a day or 2 water in the intercooler piping should also evaporate. (well atleast in MIAMI)

He's claiming it soudns deeper and louder, im not too sure that would cause it to sound louder, but rather quieter, the same way an aftermarket intake makes a car's motor sound deeper and louder, than its stock intake does.

still don't know why you'd run a turbo with no filter. but louder and deeper tone would only suggest somethings up with intake and exhaust. Maybe you got a leak or crack in your turbo manifold or somewhere on the downpipe....exhaust system. etc.
