The shop I'm taking my car to uses it.. I wasn't into SW because that's what maaco uses, but after seeing this other shop's finished product, I'm sold. They use some Urethane 7000 series or something like that, which is the same quality as dupont/ppg

 

I used it for awhile at my old job and actually it wasnt all that bad.....we used it mainly because of it having the reactive reducer(hardener in the reducer) so we could waranty paint jobs......I found it easy to spray, only thing I didnt like is color matching, the color variances were a little off on the yellows and blues, but if your doing an overall it would be fine.I liked it better than PPG, and dupont.

But I still choose diamont over everything else

 

I also prefer the RM Diamont. Some of the tints do not cover as well though. I've heard thats what Chip Foose prefers also. The 5300 rocks for completes, has a great gloss.

 

I wasnt super impressed with Sherwin Williams paint. My cousin is a painter so he got used to working with it all day, that's all their shop used. However I felt like the paint was more "brittle" than other brands. It seems to get rock chips easier. I've used dupont after that and it layed down really nice, and the car currently has PPG on it. If you can get it for a good deal then it is a decent paint but if you're paying full retail price, I'd look elsewhere.

 

sw paints are good. im a ppg guy but imo sw, ppg, dupont,basf,sikkens, and standox paint there all good if you know how to spray them and i personally spray just about all of them before. but i will say ppg clear is by far my favorite. and not to be a dick but how do you figure sw paint is more brittle than other brands and seems to get rock chips easier?

No offense taken. Just based on observation.

It seemed that I got paint chips from a stone strike in the front part of my hood and front bumper at a much faster rate after the SW paint was sprayed. Same car, had OEM paint originally, then SW, then Dupont, then PPG and it seemed that the SW was far more susceptable to chips than the other 3 paints. Granted, I have no idea what paint was put on from the factory or how thick or how many coats of clear were put on. Now that the shop no longer uses SW (switched to PPG), I dont see any reason to use it on my cars.

I dont have any solid evidence, like all car forum members demand to see, but I noticed a difference and its personal preference.

SW isnt a bad paint at all. I havent used them much but from what I did use...I cant complain.

for the price of duration, you might as well get automotive paint. SW rips you off brutal.

The SW is a very good product. I've been spraying it for about 5 years now, was a DuPont man prior, but the SW has really come around. The 930 and 950 clearcoats are awesome, they aren't any more expensive than ppg or dupont. If you cut and buff the 950 or the 930, you can't beat the look of it. And as far as the rock chip thing goes, sw warranties their finishes, as long as it is sprayed in one of their shops. The 950 is a slower clear designed for all-overs, and larger spot jobs. The 930 is more of a production based clear, but side-by-side, it's hard to tell a difference. Go for the SW, especially if you can get a discount on it!
