stripping paint off plastics? aircraft stripper?
I want to repaint my hubcaps cause the paint is flakin off. What is the easiest way to remove the old paint? I was gonna use aircraft stripper but then i was afraid it would eat away at the plastic itself... ideas?
Thanks!

It will but use a very high grit. Wetsand 600 and up will do the trick. Reason being that if you use course grit youll eat away the plastic and itll look like **** and uneven (depending on the color you use).

That;s why I said he should at least do some cool color. There's a guy in my hometown rocking gloss black hubcaps. Doesn't look too bad.

Right on man, I was just curious; that's all. I wasn't trying to rag on your thread. I've always wanted to paint steelies, hehe.

Re: (turbotime)
i used some aircraft stripper on some of my old side moldings and it started to eat away at the plastic within about 5 minutes....so I would suggest using sand paper, sand it down with some 180, prime it, then sand it down with 320, then paint

You'll end up scratchin your hubbies if you do that.

Give em a power wash before you paint em again.
Good luck man

I would take some steel wool to them or some fine sandpaper. Since you are going to paint over them scratch marks from the sand paper won't show unless they are absolutely huge.

Re: (okdc2)
800 grit automotive sandpaper wet or dry by 3m works well just wet sand em down in a swirling motion and spray em thats what i used for my steelies
