Default SRS Light

i own a 2000 accord coupe ex v6 and the SRS light recently came on and now stays on. i did some research and came up with this http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What...reset

what could be the cause of this? and is there anything i can do?

EDIT:

it needs to be fixed, not fixing is not an option TIA.

There is a freebie from the dealership IF the problem is the seatbelt latch.
You need to find out the code, then more info will be easy to give, to help you.

Did some more research on the web, and found that honda did a recal on the obds unit. and usually wants between 700 and 1300 to fix it! if that is the case, im furious.

If they did a recall on it, that means they admit there's a problem with it and will fix it free of charge at the dealership....you shouldn't have to pay for recall work.

There is a warranty extension on the Occupant Position Detection System on many 2000 - 2004 including all 2000 accords with OPDS. You are entitled to a free inspection of the SRS system under service bulletin 06-009.

"To ensure the OPDS remains in top condition, we are
extending the warranty on the main components of the
system, the OPDS control unit and the OPDS sensor, to
10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
If the red supplemental restraint system (SRS) indicator
on the instrument panel stays on, take your vehicle to any
Honda dealer for an inspection. If there is a problem with
the OPDS control unit or the OPDS sensor, and your
vehicle is within the extended warranty time/mileage
period, the dealer will replace the control unit or the
sensor free of charge. The inspection is also free of
charge, even if there is not a problem with the OPDS
control unit or the OPDS sensor and your vehicle is within
the extended warranty time/mileage period."

Most likely the code will be a 9-3, open in the drivers seatbelt buckle switch. Used to get away with replacing the buckle under lifetime seatbelt warranty, however Honda has put a stop to that since the mechanical portion of the buckle still works.

Hey, thank you very much for the great info and i will get back to you after i take it in this week.

You make it sounds like that with a code 9-3 that you have to replace some portion of the seatbelt. but you also make it sound like that if that is the case that it is not covered under the warenty extension. if it isnt, any idea what the cost may be to replace it?

So i went into the dealer to have them check it out, and they told me that it was only covered if they pulled a 15-1,15-2, or a 15-3 code. They say that if they pull one of those everything will be free to fix. if not its my resposibility.

My question is, can you read these codes through the OBDII slot? basically can i take it to a local auto zone and have they tell me the code? just incase it is another code and save me the $80.00 for the moment?

1993 Accord EX....My SRS light is on too but mine usually only comes on when the weather is warm, like 80 degrees and up. During the winter it didn't come on. Anyone know why that would be happening?

~~UPDATE~~

So i took my car in for my appointment at my local dealer, they ran my code and unfortunatly it was not one for the three that were under exteneded warenty (15-1,15-2, and 15-3) but it was instead as someone had preveously suggested the drivers side seatbelt malfunction. BUT other than the $86.00 diagnostic fee, there is no other cost, they are replacing the seatbelt head under hondas lifetime seatbelt warrenty. I'm pretty happy
