Default 1.8t manifold

This is just something I did on the side in trade for having my rear quarters fixed. Its for a 3571R 1.8t in a Mk4 gti. I put rods in it for the guy also, so he should be good to make some decent numbers (in the vw world ).

It's sch10 304l like every other ramhorn. I used a Miller dynasty 300DX and a jig I made with 6" x 5/8" plate for flanges/heatsinks tied together with 2" x 1" square tube, 1/8" i think. I tried solar flux on this one for the first time. I weld at my work but rarely multipass pipe like this...good practice i guess.

I know a few things i would change on it but im curious what you guys think needs improving.

looks pretty good. Was this a one time deal? whats the reason for the extra piece on the 90 going to the collector?

also, what is solar flux? like what does it do/is its purpose? anything special?

Solar flux is a powder mixed with water or methyl hydrate, that is painted on the inside of the joints to stop the stainless from sugaring. same job as purging. but makes a glass like layer on the inside of the pipe to shield the weld from the oxygen. Works quite well.

well you know it's a tial 38mm, but i see what you are saying. It fits with a .63 T3 housing but I didnt have the Gt with me so I just guessed. the tube is 2 3/8" long so i think it will put the WG out past the housing. If not its no big deal to cut it and add a piece of a bend to make it work. I didnt think it would have very good boost control if the WG exit from the collecter was a 90 angle like most. this is about 80* so maybe it will help. we'll see, he's local so i can play around with the design and no one will make a post about how im a scammer or whatever happens on here all the time

the reason is because its not a symetrical manifold. That is the only way to make it without cheating any bends or the collecter angle.

thanks for the good words.

went up to the guys house and fit the turbo and WG the other day. It had about an inch of clearance between the WG and turbine housing so i was happy about that...once he gets his car back well see if it clears the firewall haha
