If you can. But ex tranny is a sweet upgrade. I've enjoyed it immensely on my slow y7.

Honestly, the dx 1st would be awesome if you're boosting over 200whp. I've had problems with traction on my boosted d16z6, running about 250whp, falken azenis, traction bars, and OBX LSD. If you're below 225hp, traction shouldn't be a problem with the ex tranny. It is a GREAT upgrade.
In theory, the longer gears are better, because you're spending more time near your peak hp. But having to downshift to get there can slow you down. That's the biggest draw back.
While you're in there, get a good clutch and a lightened flywheel. You can go down to 11-12 lbs on a stock on while still being able to balance it easily. Any machine shop should be able to do it for less than $75. And they can resurface it at the same time. Best bang for the buck there is.

I disagree 100%. The point of gearing is that each gear puts you progressively closer to your maximum torque/hp output. The quicker you can get to that and maintain it, the quicker you are. If you could, in theory, get a transmission that would allow you to reach your 5th gear redline in a 1/4 mile, it would be quicker based on gearing than any other transmission.
