Default Pre-buy questions (burning oil)

I'm looking into purchasing a 4dr SE Black on Black. I've got a baby on the way and need a 4 door since the 2 door Legend isn't going to cut it (but i'm still holding on to it). This is going to [hopefully] be my first teg and had a concern:

The only problem this car is having is that it recently started burning oil. He said that on roughly a 200 mile highway drive, it burns about 1/2 qt of oil. And it only burns oil in those quantities when he is on the highway, not in town.

I have no idea really where to start. The car has 190k on it, always dealer serviced, 2 owner, few tasteful mods (tein s-techs, gsr fat5's, dc header, CAI, and greddy sp2), and i'd like to buy it for what he's asking.

What are problem areas in the motor that might cause it to burn oil? Intake manifold gasket? Valve seals? etc?

I'm trusting theres enough experienced members lurking that someone is bound to have been through this same situation.

Thanks in advance

It probably needs piston rings and a valve job. thats my guess.

rings, seals... very likely.
I would be wary. It could be worse than that if it's burning oil consistently.
Hopefully that motor wasn't as bad as mine, but i finally had to get my motor rebuilt completely because as it turned out, there were warped valves and the works... And mine started burning oil slowly but got worse progressively.

I will never underestimate oil loss again.

how are you able to tell exactly how much oil is being burned? the dipstick on the integra isnt exactly a highly accurate mesuring device.

Well crap. I think i may still pick this car up. Worse case scenario, pick up a low mile LS motor and drop it in. Those are cheap aren't they?

relatively cheap yes.

there's a good possibility that motor is on its way out, so definitely keep it in mind if you buy it..

Its a 95. Greddy will be taken off and put back to stock immediately. He has all the stock parts still
