Default Is it possible to test compression on a d16a6 while it is out of the car?

recently picked up a stock motor and want to check the compression before installing it. Is there any way to do this while the motor is out of the car??? What about a leak down test??? LMK thanks

yes take out the spark plug and instert the compression tester and get the 19mm socket and the ratchet and turn the crank pulley bolt.. like if it was running dont stop keep on doing it until the needle from the compression tester will stop and wont go up any more....

i think i have seen this done at one of those engine importers. they just hot wired a battery to the starter and the engine turned i dont see why it couldnt be done. i dont know about a leak down but you could probably do that one too

I figured it out and all cylinders tested above 170. You have to run a jumper from a good battery sitting on a peice of wood and ground it to the block and run power to the starter to crank the motor a couple of times. Insert a compression gauge into the cylinder one at a time and you will get a reading. Make sure the flywheels spins all the way around before you do this to make sure the motor is not locked up.
