Default Need Help Getting a Motor Bar'd

I'm planning on getting a motor bar'd as a Del Sol. It's a B16A2. Will I be able to ref it with a 97 Del Sol P30. Or does the motor itself has to be an A3.

The reason I'm asking is...If I was to ref it as a 99 SI with a P2T. I might run into problems with the PTANK sensor.

And also. Will I pass ref if i used a wire tuck harness. Each plug has individual wires the run from the middle/ bottom of the firewall. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

what car are you barring and what yr is the motor? if you barring a b16 into a 92-95 civic you are going to need a p30 ecu from the del sol b16

if you baring a 96 hatch then just use the 99-00 si ecu with a jumper harness obd-2a to obd-2b. and make sure all your smog equipment is hooked up and no check engine lights are on

General rule for legal swaps is the motor your swapping in has to be either the same year or newer than the car you are putting it into. If you have a 96 civic, u can't legally put a 92-95 civic B16 into it bacause it's obd1. you can't go obd2 to obd1. Make sure all of your smog equipment is connected, such as charcoal canister, and purge solenoids, etc. The referee will usually perform a visual inspection of all your smog equipment as well as do a smog check.

I wonder if it'll pass with forged pistons that are close to stock compression and rods. I'm kinda on that boat.

On my coupe I used a JDM B16A which has slightly higher compression than the USDM del sol motor and it passed and got refed. Forged pistons shouldn't make a difference even if the compression is raised slightly. If everything is hooked up right, cel works, you should be cool.

here's another dumb question..

does the suffix of the motor...b16(a)(a2)(a3), make any difference in passing the bar.

i'm asking this because have an a2 motor and want to ref it as usdm 96-97 del sol. which i know is an a3

That I'm not too sure about. Like I said, I used a JDM B16A for mine and it worked. The block is stamped "B16A" which technically did not exist in America.(I think the 93-95 del sol vtec's were B16A1) As far as I was told was the motor has to have been used in an American model of the vehicle. B16, B18, etc. I think that's why people can't legally swap the SR20DET into the 240sx. Although that motor was offered in the G20 and SER sentras, it was a non-turbo version. I think your main issue is the obd1/2 thing and having the crank sensor.

I think you should talk to the ref station. I think if you ask them honestly and show them u want to do the swap right, they should answer your questions.

There not going to look at the lettering as long as it says B16 and your head says PR3. What there going to look at is the head stamp and the numbers. Look at where the header meets the head, right above 3 and 4 youll see little circles with marked numbers. Tell us what the first 2 are. I though B16 Del sol's stopped at 95 and im not 100% sure but i dont think jumper harness's are allowed, i think you will actually need to convert your harness to 00 SI.

Did you ever take your pretest like i told you?

that is really my main concern. seems like too much trouble to add a crank angle sensor and the pressure tank sensor. if i were to go 99

but there are 96-97 del sol with obd2 p30 ecus out there. and thats my preferable route.

when i get home from work. i will let you know what the head is stamped. Thanks so far!
