d16y8 into an OBD0 car?
how hard would it be to drop a y8 into an OBD-0 car.
I'm interested in going OBD-1 but havent found many guides like i've found for the MPFI swap.
If I do go OBD-1, how hard would it be to make the y8 OBD-1

It isn't hard to do either. There are conversion harness and you would need to switch out your distributor.

Obdo is fairly easy. Take the y8 block, head, and intake mani and everything obdo will apply to it. The dizzy, alternator, and everything else will work. Stock CRX Si engine harness will work, or an mpfi converted harness. TPS, MAP and all of those shenanigans plug right in.
Obd1, you have to buy a dizzy conversion harness, as well as an obdo-obd1 conversion harness at the ecu. plus a bunch of other stuff that you should use the SEARCH function for

I converted to OBD1 in 10 minutes using the rywire kit.
I'm running SOHC ZC vtec with the d16y8 head. d16a6 intake manifold and d16z6 distributor ( I'm waiting for my eg dx/lx dizzy )
I know the d16a6 and d15b7 dizzy fits the d16y8 if you use the d16z6 dizzy like me, you'll have to notch the holes for it to mount up. Don't try to force it in it'll break, i learned the hard way.

I'll probably end up going OBD-0 since I already have all the OBD0 parts. Unless I can find all the OBD-1 conversion parts for cheap

Oh **** yea, I forgot about the v-tec. I can hook it up to an RPM-Activated switch tho, can't I?

Yea you can run the rpm switch, but you won't get the fuel maps with vtec. Also, the b2 axles will work, if you use the cable si tranny.
a turbo, and a pm6 will not give u that, but it will be alot faster
Only if you convert to obd1 correctly, will you get the benefits of the all powerful "vtec"
Your best bet: Convert to obd1 now, then down the line if you wanna go boost, you have better tuning abilities.

I know the Si is better but all I have right now is a DX. I want to go OBD-1 but I can't find any good guides like I can for the MPFI swap. I'm kind of clueless on what needs to be done besides ECU, ECU Harness and Dizzy.

will I need to switch out the OBD-2 sensors with OBD-0 sensors or will the OBD-2 sensors work? I'd imagine they wouldnt

I'm just playing with you, my guide to doing OBD-1 is in the FAQ.

lol, i wasn't lying about anything.. but thanks for the guide this is what i have been looking for. I must have missed it when i went through the FAQ
you could chip the pm6,add vtec fuel and timing maps and use the a/c condensor output for vtec engagement only using one wire..if your car didnt come with a/c you just add a standard 30 amp automotive relay, look here more info.http://www.xenocron.com/te.php?page=TEvtec
Also I should let you know that you'll need to cut off the factory fan switch plug, then add wire and solder or butt on the right plug from a junker car.

My car came with A/C but I took it off, will I still be able to do this? There were 2 fans on the car, I took one off because the turbo and manifold wouldnt fit with the one. A buddy told me I could use the wire from that for v-tec.
Also, my pm6 is already chipped. Would I just run stock code for the p28?

Yes,as long as the relay is still there..You just find the wire that used to go to the a/c clutch, then take that wire and hook it onto the vtec solenoid.
The P28 maps will work fine as they're both 1.6 sohc vtec's,however the d16y8 fuel and timing maps are different..
