Wheel Stud Replacement
I stripped 2 of my lug stud and I took out the rotor and I'm having problem trying to take the stud out. Should i cut halve the stud and bang it out? what the easiest way to get this thing off.
Wouldnt it be bad to bang the stud off with a hammer because the bearings will come off?? Correct if im wrong but when i changed mine i used a slide n hammer thingy mah jigger

what the hell does that mean??? lol
to get it off you can cut the stud close to the hub and just hammer it through and when you seat the stud into the hub you align the splines and use a few stacked washers and your lug nut and torque it down till its in.
now my problem and maybe also on the da's (not sure) but i cant figure out how to get the stud into the hole in the hub while still on the spindle i have been told it can and has been done by somehow grinding the side of the stud head flat to give it enough room to clear the spindle, but ive tried this and even notched the spindle slightly (not too much) and i still dont have the clearance even with stock length studs

usually u use the slide hammer. it will pull the center hub off, and after that all u do is hammer the studs off and repalce it. either with a hand tool or the air hammer. i use the air hammer its just easier. 5-10 min job. if u have the tools.
You have to seperate the hub, and the slide hammer makes it an easy job. Autozone sells a $20 slide hammer that works fine from what I have been told. There is a girl on G2IC that has done like 5 cars so far, and hasn't ruined any wheel bearings using the slide hammer. There was a write up, don't know if it is still archived or not.
o yea thats rite. auto zone rents its. u pay for the tool and when ur done with it u get a full refund as long as u dont break the tool
and u could bang it out but that the safest way. its up to u.
