How do I test the ICM/igniter/coil ?
My wife's 91 DX hatch 1.5/5 speed just quit when she was driving. She said it was running fine all day and when driving home, the battery/oil idiot lights came on and it shut off.
-There is fuel
-battery is at 12.4v
-The fueses are fine
-Car cranks but doesnt fire
-I pulled a plug and had her crank it and there is no spark.
I'm pretty new to Hondas, but not cars in general. If I can have a quick how-to, I'd appreciate it. I dont want to pay 300ish bucks for an autozone replacement of the distributor assembly if it just needs a new part.
Thanks for any help I can get.

The ignition coil goes out much more commonly than the ignitor. Look inside the coil to see if it looks burnt or if the coil has a small round discolored spot on the plastic which means it overheated and is bad.
I'm having the same problem with my CRX (LS Swap) pulled up to a friends house and it just died, I'll have to pull the cap off and see if everything ok. I hope its just the coil I need to get my car running again.
Use a test light. Clamp the alligator clip on the positive terminal of your battery and touch the probe to the negative side of you coil. Have someone crank the engine over and look for a flashing light (interrupted ground). If it is interupted, replace the coil. If it does not flash, replace the ICM. I've seen way more ICM's go out than coils.
Ok guys, I know this is an old thread, but I think I have a dead ICM..
I just pulled the ICM out of the car and ran the test outlined here - http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ignit...r-testing.html.
I am seeing ~0.4v when pin 4 is floated. I'm seeing ~11.3Xv when pin 4 is grounded..
I'm putting 12v into the ICM, so I should see ~12.0v when pin 4 is grounded, right?
Thanks guys..
