Default Cleaning The Engine And Engine Bay

I want to clean my engine and engine bay, but don't want to have to sit under my hood for the whole day wiping it by hand. I found a link from Accord Tuner: http://www.1017.org/nsx/Engine...k.htm. It says to use Gunk Engine Cleaner and some Armorall Foaming Tire Cleaner. Is this a good idea or not? I just want to find alternatives then having to do it with a towel and my hand.

Simple green and a power washer works wonders. Or you can just go to the DIY carwash places.

Just make sure you cover the electrical and electronic parts under the hood with suran wrap and rubber bands! Always read the instructions on the back of the can or cleaner you use some are flamable!! A low pressure setting on the pressure washer with degreaser injection works well! make sure the engine is not HOT when you wash it you can crack the block!!

I actually have a power washer, it just doesn't want to work.

Deffinitely! I'm not a complete idiot, I have some common sense.

Thanks for all the input and advice! I think I'll go with the link from Accord Tuner seeing as my power washer doesn't want to work for the life of it. I'll post some pics of a before and after, that is if it looks good.

A pressure washer isn't a good idea here. It's great if the engine was off the car. But electricals are still in here. The Guide link is ok. Gets rid of some grease. <------ Safest way to clean engine in my opinion.

Hey you could always try pressure washer if you want to.

Why didn't you change the oil? If you ran it up to operating temp for any lenbgth of time it would have burned any small amount of moisture you might have gooten in that small hole!

I have no idea what kind it is. My step dad bought it and I used it once. A week later i wanted to use it again and theres no pressure. I'll have to break it out again to take another look at it, once this nasty weather is over though.

The only thing I'm afraid of is the whole pressure washing thing involved and water.

When ever my engine gets too dusty, I go to the car wash, wash the outside of the car (while the engine cools), then spray the engine and everything else with the same (full) pressure. Never covered anything, and never had a problem. If the engine is greasy, you may want to spray some de-greaser on it first. Just try not to spray de-greaser on wires too much. I have been doing this for 16 years on two different Accords, no problem.

I'd do that but I have so much bad luck with my Accord it's not even funny. I think for the first time cleaning my engine/engine bay (yes the first time it's being cleaned), I'll try the link from Accord Tuner and see how it goes. Then go from there.

It's like some Gunk Engine Cleaner and tire polish. Yeah, sounds random, but it looks like it worked.

Looks great, but it's hard to believe he didn't do any hand wiping on it. I don't use de-greaser, or silicone tire spray though. I don't care if it shines, as long as it's clean. Considering how dirty his engine bay was, he did a good job. I usually spray mine off before it gets that bad (5-10 mins.). Have fun man

Man i use Easy off oven cleaner that **** works! cover your stuff first then spray it and watch it foam up and the dirt come to the surface then spray it a couple of times do the same steps like 4 or 5 times for better results.

I just picked up some Gunk Foamy Engine Brite Engine Cleaner (for older dirty engines). Once this noreaster dies off and dries up outside I'll give cleaning the engine a shot.

whatever you do dont use black magic 2 in 1 engine degreaser and shine..that **** sucks...I bought 2 bottles of it because my engine bay is a mess...at first it seemed to work and everything looked good but once it dried it left horrible stains everywhere..my valve cover and oil cap islike brown and it wont come off..I even bought gunk engine degreaser and it scrubbed it with a wire brush..nothing...it got most of the grease and stuff off but it left nasty stains
