Is sanding a possible method of removing Dirt stained paint??
Just got a 1990 cream car for dirt cheap. The problem is that the paint is stained with dirt even after vigorously scrubbing it. These stains only appear on the hood roof and trunk of the car as if the sun baked it in.
The car needs a paint job but I don't think that it is worth it. I just want the car to not look so dirty.
I tried running a brushing the paint with a razor and that seemed to work so I want to know if I can just sand the top layer of dirt away.
Washing with dish soap didn't do the job so I know that car soap wouldn't as they are more mild.

I just clay barred my Buick yesterday and I would try that first if you haven't before sanding. The clay bar works wonders and you will be surprised at what it remove from the paint.

Funny, the car I bought was a buick. If the clay removes a small part of the paint then it should work. If it just scrubs off bonded surface dirt as a website says, it will not work. I'll give it a try though.

What type of Buick? Anyway, yea if you need to remove paint/clearcoat then wetsanding is what you need. I may end up wetsanding myself also but the clay did clean up the surface of contaminents.
