I was just wondering what is the difference between the maint req light and the check engine light. As of now I have the maint req light flash 5 times when I start my car but then goes away. I’m assuming time for tune up or oil change. How can I stop this from happening without going to the dealer. Just purchased a 94 GSR so I'm new to these cars thanks.

 

The MIL is just a timer. There is a square button beneath the dash on the driver's side. Turn the key on and push and hold the button until the light is extinguished.

 

I was also wondering about the purpose of this light and found on google this guide. It explains the purpose of it and how to get rid of it.
