Default Some thoughts on Crimestopper alarm

I've bought three of them over the years from Autotoys.com, because they are the cheapest. Their 2-way remote were plain LED, rather than the ghetto-looking LCD display with a car drawn in the middle was another attraction.

Anyhow, two of them were CS2011RS (1-way with Remote start), one of them CS2004TW1 (2-way).

One CS2011RS worked perfect on my sister's daily driver for 60,000 miles. One of the remotes was dead after a battery change recently.

The other CS2011RS's remote start feature never really worked on a 02 Toyota Corolla, it'd crank weird and doesn't start the car after the attempt. It was removed after two months and forgotten somewhere in the garage.

The CS2004TW2 was installed onto my Civic about a year ago.

-The antenna tip of the primary remote broke after four months, making it quite ugly.

-Battery of primary remote had to be replaced every 3 months

-Alarm brain suddenly became a drain to my battery. I removed it altogether after two days of dead battery.

-backup remote and primary remote didn't work after a recent battery change.

So, all three remotes and the alarm brain of CS2004TW1 were sent back to Crimestopper, along with a $15 money order. I was told that they'd be fixed within a week and shipped back to me. That's gonna be next week.

These are the facts and timeline of events. So what do you think? or ?

As you can see from my post down the line a little I have had a little problem with mine as well but so far (knock on wood) I haven't had any MAJOR problems and the thing is sensitive as hell...here's a link to what's goin on with mine for some more food for thought though.

Actually for your case, I think you should send the brain back to its headquarters like I did. I still haven't received them back, but I was told it's gonna be within this week

I have received my package from them. Everything was replaced with brand new and updated units. I'm satisfied with their customer service.

I'll put back the alarm tomorrow.

The few that have come through my work seemed to be pretty decent for the money...

for a "bargain brand" at least it comes with comprehensible instructions

I recently bought a 92 Gsr. It came with the crime stopper alarm installed on it. i am still using it but i am considering pullin it pretty quick. it has a mind of its own, it goes off for no reason all the time. I also dont like when you unlock the doors, you have about 15 seconds to get the key in the ignition other wise it goes off. very annoying. These are just my opinions and it could just be a shitty one.

I'm pretty sure the 15-second thing is a programmable option. All their installation manuals and instructions are posted online on their website.

yes, 90% of how good an alarm is in the install...

obviously higher quality products that are less prone to failure (or easier to work with) are better... but those both seem like the way it is set up not the way it has to be.

Sensors adjusted too sensitive or not sensitive enough are not the alarms fault.

although I am glad I work at a shop that sells Viper, less headache than having things go out all the time or not work right + the support is nice too.

Yep, takes time to do a good install and finetuning the sensor so that it's just right.

I've put back everything Crimestopper sent me. Works like a charm now.

So, it's a for them!

Great customer service is commendable but it can't make up for a low quality product.

If you ever have problems with a product, STOP giving that company your return business. You say it is cheaper, but 3 broken alarms are more expensive than one reliable alarm; especially when your car gets stolen while your defective alarm is being processed by that excellent customer service.

we sell crimestopper at my work, some models suck and all have problems, the worst is the cs-2004TWI, the one that you mentioned almost everyone we sell has a problem.
Cs-2011s are usually very reliable, sometimes programming tach can be tough with them, but there could be a number of reasons the remote start on ur corolla didnt work.

the most reliable units by crimestopper in my experience are:
rs-900
rs-1304dp
cs-2004dc
cs-2015
cs-2016 (although the remotes are slow to respond and people cant figure out how to use these properly sometimes, user error)
the best (so far) is thier newest and top of the line:
Infinity FM (LCD color screen 2-way) the remotes are much better on batteries too.

FYI: Crimestopper was the first company with remote alarms.

Yeah, I picked the 2004TW1 because of the simplicity of the remote. I hope there is no more gremlins with it.

On the other hand, I've just installed another 2011RS on a friend's car. I've installed a few over the years and no one had any problems yet. It seems that 2011RS rev.IV are quite different from their older units, with more jumper settings, and the new remote looks better than earlier iterations.
