Ok, I finally gave up my 94 EJ and got something a little "nicer". I picked up a 03 s2k at a Mazda lot. It was a trade-in and had no owners manual. The Mazda people didn't know anything about a s2k, so here's my question: What the hell is that 20 second long whine when I start the engine? It doesn't do it when the engine is warm. I'm sure its suppose to do it but I'm lost. Someone gimme a clue, please.

hey if i leave my air conditioning on and turn the car on, it whines for a bit. periodically driving too it will whine for 10-15 sec every 15 minutes or so if i have the air.

 

did you check the secret compartment for the owners manual? thats where mine was hiding

haha, it took me about 6 months to finally find it!!!!!

 

Ok. I found the "secret compartment" and my owners manual was in there. The owners manual said it is an air pump for better emissions when the engine is cold. Thanks for the help.
