That's for a B18C1, but the same principle applies to the D-series.

Well yea, if you are following those instructions completely, then yes, take it back, but something tells me that you aren't. Are you sure you have the timing gun connected to the #1 spark plug wire? This is the wire that is connected to the cylinder closest to the timing belt.

damn a shot through the heart of a newb = P ouch... haha

no i got it all hooked up right, the light just isn't picking up the spark i guess... i thought maybe the induction pickup was dirty already so i wiped it off but that didn't do anything... it keeps flashing at a very slow very steady pace and it keeps going whhen i push the on/off button, and when i disconnect the pickup wire... as long as it's connected to the battery it keeps flashing at the same pace. i went through all the troubleshoots for the light in the manual too and nothing's working = / doesn't even pick anything up from any of the other wires... i tried all four of them

Yea, if it's still flashing after you've pushed the on/off button then you have a bad gun. I'm not taking any shots at you. Just making sure that you've checked everything because I make those kind of mistakes all the time.

Well if your gun is malfunctioning then you won't be able to constantly see the timing marks. However, if your gun is working properly and you still aren't able to see the marks constantly, it could be that your timing belt may have skipped a few teeth.

aright guys i'm seriously like starting to bug... i have a feeling that this is taking me a lot longer than it should or needs to. i got the marks to show up for a second but then the radiator fan came on and they disappeared again... the only time they show up though is after i rev the engine a little bit... but that's probably not a good idea, is it???
