I'm sick and tired of throwing the IACV light. I did a manual tranny conversion which needed the 3 to 2 wire IACV change. so I did. I have to reset my ECU every couple of days because it will randomly start to act up. Once this problem randomly instantly occurs I can fix it temporarily by turning the car off then back on.
I checked my wiring and its was fine. its rewired right at the ecu too. The IACV is still good bc it clicked when power was put on it.
please help!

Naturally, if a civic has a 3 wire IAC, its not a good idea to try and swap it to two wire... mainly based on the fact a 3 wire IAC runs on a different operation than a 2 wire one does in mechanical terms. Ive read up on ppl claiming theres a way to bypass it, but i really dont buy into that, cause i have yet to see any sucess stories.
If you want to make it run right, get the correct wiring harness and correct ECU that reads for a 2-wire operating IAC.
The only 3-wire IAC i know of is the D16Y7 (96-00 LX, DX, HX)
Anything else ive seen runs a standard two-wire IAC on the back of the manifold.

I have a 5 spd manual tranny for that correct motor. it only runs on the two wires. it said to remove one and move another wire to the correct spot. thats what i did.

I believe it could be that when I tried a different IACV air got trapped at the top of the cooling passage right above where the two coolant lines go into. this would cause the coolant not to circulate properly causing the unit to over heat and not work properly. thats what i think it is.
I heard that you couldnt burn out the IACV unit in the ecu.

call me stupid but Ill throw this out anyway did you swap the intake manifold from a auto intake mani to a manual intake manifold ? I see you saying you did a manual conversion but I havent heard anything about the intake mani . Like I said I assume you did but I just have to ask

Yes, I did swap over the manifold. I'm definently going to have to sharpen my soldering skills. What do you mean by a cold joint? and breaking as in the electrical current?
If I were to retry... do I twist the wires like above then solder?

Give this a read. You can probably start towards the bottom on the "General Methodology" part.

i would actually listen to what this guy has to say and get a ecu for the manual version of your car, and get the wiring harness for the manual version of your car, expensive but will fix everything(sorry i didnt hear you say what your engine was). yeah i did something similar to yours, and in the long run, your like " wtf i could of just done a whole motor swap and it would be the same price(d16z6 that is or a better d-series). well learn from your mistakes, thats why we make them.
