Car alarm
So I have a 97 ej6 and i am looking to get an alarm with keyless entry. I am lookin at the viper 3002 kit. I was wondering how difficult it is and what all is involved. I know there is alot of wiring but that does not scare me. Do you guys think its something I should pay a shop to do or is it easier than what i think?
I'd have it installed at a place that warranties their install... Circuit City, Best Buy, or whatever major alarm retailer/installer in your area would be a good place to start... Just modify things to your liking after they install it...
The viper 3002 shouldn't be that hard to install should you decide to DIY, considering it's not a remote start alarm. Ones with remote start are more of a PITA to install and harder to conceal because of the super duper all-in-one relay...

Read this and decide if your up to the task of doing the job. It would be hard for us to tell if you are mechanicly incline to do the job. There is alot that could go wrong if you do not have the proper tools. I seen to many installs go wrong durning my career.

viper/python/hornet = all the same.
As long as it's DEI with a pager it's fine.
I got my Python 700 installed for $300. Great entry level alarm you can add stuff to later. Back-up battery, hood pin switch, and kill-switch and you've got a nice budget alarm IMO.
Don't forget to tell the installers to wire the "trunk open" light in your dash to the alarm. If they can open your trunk and the alarm doesn't go off you're Effed.

well i work at circuit city and i've seen many people come in trying to install there own alarms themselves and i've seen many disasters if you don't know what your doing you can really damage your car.

if you have a shop do it. It won't protect your car for ****. If you spend a good 15 minutes under your dash looking at what a shop has installed. You will see just HOW easy it is to bypass. If you want it to help your car stay in your posession, DIY. Plenty of info on here to get you going. WRX killer posted a very good walk through that should get you started.
*DEI python 990 (1 mile radius 2-way pager alarm)
*PAC clutch bypass for remote start (car will never start in gear)
*dual zone prox sensor
*glass break sensor
*tilt sensor
*back-up battery (most important accessory)
*mini piezo siren (for inside the car)
*police siren
*extra car battery for police siren
this set up will cost close to $1700 installed. but the look on the theifs face when a cop siren goes off under your car is pricless.

look into compustar....it's a great high end alarm (better than viper in my opinion) with page system like viper only longer range and auto start and all other gizmos..look into it before buying a viper...

A lifetime warranty? Thats cool. Do they reimburse you for your car when it gets stolen because of their shitty alarm install?
