Need help with mini-me on 88 crx
I'm new to honda cars and a little confused.
I have a 88 CRX DX with what I call throttle body injection and 1500 cc w/5 spd.
I have been reading about the mini-me change over for these engines, and I think I want to do it.
Can anyone help me with the engine numbers for my engine, and what I need to look for on what engine to do my change over?
The more I look at the forums, the more I become confused, because I don't know the lettering system for all engines.
I've worked on american cars for 40 years and built fuel injection streetrods for about 15 years. I am comfortable working around efi, but I've never owned a honda before.
I love driving the crx. The 1500 cc engine really impresses me how great it goes. I would love to make it better.
I can't seem to find a good thread to help me learn what the engine I have and what I need.
Need help for rookie rice burner owner.
Thanks,
Ron

Your engine is a D15B2, you can tell what the engine code is by looking at the block stamp near the exhaust manifold, where the trans and motor meet.
Basically what you'll be doing is swapping a VTEC head from a 92-00 Civic onto your stock block, then doing some wiring changes to accomodate the new sensors, etc. on the new head.
Here's a thread that should point you in the right direction: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1371460
If you need any additional info, just search for "Mini Me swap" in the archives. Or if you need engine codes, etc. just google them or search on the site here. Welcome and good luck.

Thanks a million for the help.
It's nice to know that the honda guys are as helpful and chevy guys.
I'll get the hang of the rice stuff soon.
Thanks,
Ron

Any idea what the block code is for the 92-00 engine is. I have a friend at a junk yard that has several junk honda engines, but they are not marked what they came out of.
Thanks again,
Ron

the head you will want to find is either off of a D16z6 (92-95 OBD1 vtec engine) or D16Y8 (96-00 OBD2 vtec engine)
The easiest to swap in is going to be the Z6 being it is OBD1. an OBD0 (non obd) to OBD1 conversion is much easier than an OBD0 to OBD2 conversion.

Guys, thanks a million.
I have tried searching a half dozen sites for about a month before posting this message.
I didn't know enough basic info to do an intelligent search.
Now I have enough info to search and maybe find the info I need.
I've noticed a lot of noobs get flamed really bad right off the bat. A lot of folks forget that you have to have some basic knowledge before your searches are fruitful.
I've learned more from this post today than I've learned in the last month.
Again, thanks a million.

HELP MES NEXT MY VTAKS ARE BROKEZ!!!!!!
Something else I have a question about. If you change over to the 92-95 V-tech head and MPFI system, Do you change over to OBD1, or can you keep OBD0?
Thanks,
Ron
Thanks,
Ron
It's much easier to just change over to OBD1 IMO. If you want an easy conversion harness, you can find it at http://www.rywire.com
Kinda lame question, but how would this swap affect gas mileage.
I drive the **** out of this little car, and it still gets 35-36 mpg. It'd be a shame to loose that.

I think I'll try to get up the parts in the next few weeks and buy the rywire harness and give it a go soon.
The changeover makes sense to me.
Thanks for all the help guys.
