Default *searched* 00 gsr burning oil, but not smoking.... need verification.

alright, i have an 00' gsr that i got 5k ago. When i bought it he said it used about a quart around every 3k and it does, maybe a little more cause i go into vtec more than a 50yr old would.

Now my car doesnt have blue smoke at all, but around 5.5to 6.5k right when i get on it or if i downshift it spits out a puff of greyish light black smoke and then its done, but if i downshift again it will puff again. which i heard would mean its running rich, now if i fix it and made it not run rich (how do i make it not if it is?) will it still use/burn oil?

Since it is using 1-2 quarts every 3-4k but no blue smoke, i have heard that a good valve job could do the trick cause the vaccum is pulling oil or something. also replacing the pcv valve which i have no clue what that is. those two because i dont have blue smoke.

Also the car runs amazing getting 25-30mpg and running like a champ. Now ive heard of the oil compression rings, but i want to try and do everything i can before i go ahead and do a rebuild or buy a new motor. please list anything that could cause this. anything helps just fill me up with ANY info.

It's normal for an older car. Just add oil when it needs it, and otherwise don't worry about it.

(Our '94 GS-R with 160K miles uses about a quart every 1200 miles.)
