Cheap Bender, What do you guys think?

With a single set of dies it cost $399. Seems like a pretty nice bender for the money.

Well few things I see off the bat, its hard to see right over top of the center line of the pipe while its in the machine, that makes it harder to lay over template wire, square, or an angle finder, and you cant lay a peace of bent pipe right on top of it if your making a copy, need to take it right out of the die to do so.
The second thing they show you no samples of the bends or talk about how much deformation of the pipe it has. From my experience, those dies look allot like Greenlee draw dies that elections use for there conduit tubing and they have allot of deformation with in the inside radius of the bends. So no samples of the finished bends makes me wonder how good the quality of the dies are.

I used the a very similar bender when I first started my business over 10 years. This one seems better than the one I had. I like the degree wheel etched in the side of the die. I used mine for 3 years before I opened to the public. Did many more cages that was expected my the manufactured. These are designed for Stock Cars to do repairs at the track.
I mounted mine on a stand in the garage and was able to use it without any problems what so ever. Transfer your wire gauge measurement from a square to get your degrees and read the die. Should be very simple. Plus the guys at Speedway Motors are really good to deal with if you have any problems. I was fortunate to actually get the manufacture of my bender from the shipping box so I called him directly for other dies at a reduced rate. Maybe this one will come dropped shipped also.

My friend and I built one similar to the one you have using this write-up: http://www.blindchickenracing....r.htm. We got the dies from Pro-Tools (like that write-up suggested). There was a metal shop and a water jet shop in the same complex so pretty much everything else was free.
I've never used any other benders, so I can't compare, but it worked very well.
